Rare Accessories & Collectibles

Victor Talking Machine Co. Radiator Cap

Year Manufactured: c. 1910-1930
History: The Nipper radiator cap was believed to have been given to lead salesmen by the Victor Talking Machine Company to fit the type of car that they drove. The Nipper mascot on this cap was also used on the round metal needle display dispensers that would have been found on the counter of a Victor dealer. This particular radiator cap was acquired from a prominent collection and is featured on the cover of the book "Nipper Collectibles" by Joan & Robin Rolfs.

Edison Watch Fob

Year Manufactured: 1917
History: This Thomas Edison watch Fob was presented to Orange, NJ Edison employees in commemoration of Thomas Edison's 70th birthday. Distribution of the watch fobs was limited to the Orange, NJ employees attending dinner in honor of Thomas Edison, and are therefore seldom found. The medallion was manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag, a company that specialized in many different types of commemorative, advertising, political, and fraternal items, and was in operation between 1892-1921.

Edison Celluloid Pin-back Button

Year Manufactured: c. 1901
History: This small celluloid pin-back button was produced by Edison near the turn of the century to advertise their cylinder records. These are increasingly difficult to find, as they were easily lost due to their small size.

Pathé "Salon du Phonograph" Tokens

Year Manufactured: c. 1894
History: These tokens came from an entertainment establishment operated by the Pathé Frères Co. once located at 30 Boulevard des Italiens in Paris. At the Salon du Phonographe, one could sit down in a comfy chair, insert one of these tokens into the cabinet ahead, and within 10 seconds of making a selection using the dial, hear the latest music through a set of listening tubes. Beneath the luxurious listening room, the cellar was manned by a fleet of staff who manually located and played each cylinder.
